This Detroit Speed-Built 1971 Pontiac Firebird Is A Pro-Touring Time Machine

Deb Hall’s 1971 Pontiac Firebird is a product of Detroit Speed’s focus on show-stopping builds that thrive on both the track and the street. Originally brought to the shop as a solid foundation, this F-body underwent a transformative process to become a one-of-a-kind machine blending modern engineering with timeless style.

Under the hood is an LS7 powerplant paired with a Bowler-built T-56 transmission. Detroit Speed added custom valve covers, concealed fuel injector rails, and meticulously routed plumbing and wiring for a clean, streamlined appearance. A custom aluminum cold air intake and their proprietary subframe and headers feed into a 3-inch stainless exhaust with Hooker mufflers, ensuring the LS7 breathes freely and roars with authority. Power delivery is handled by a Gear FX-built 9-inch rear end supported by Detroit Speed’s Quadrant suspension.

The body, refinished in BMW Tanzanite Blue with charcoal stripes, features carbon fiber fenders, hood, and nose expertly fitted to align seamlessly with the steel bodywork. Unique details like flush-mounted billet aluminum door handles and a custom laid-back aluminum spoiler emphasize Detroit Speed’s attention to detail. LED lighting throughout, including custom fog lights with 3D-printed bezels and machined acrylic diffusers, modernizes the classic design without compromising its character. Cerakoted window trim adds subtle durability while maintaining a factory look.

Inside, Deb’s Firebird is equally impressive. Recaro seats wrapped in leather, a custom raised center console, and a Just Dashes-restored dash pad provide a luxurious yet functional cabin. Modern BMW-style carpeting ties into the car’s theme, while classic instrument gauges and carbon fiber accents blend old-school charm with high-tech aesthetics. A four-point roll cage with a harness bar adds safety and rigidity, vital for the high-performance driving this car was built to handle.

Every Detroit Speed build is as functional as it is beautiful, and Deb’s Firebird is no exception. Recently put through its paces at Carolina Motorsports Park, the car proved it’s no trailer queen. With Kyle Tucker behind the wheel, Deb experienced the Firebird’s exceptional handling and raw power firsthand, leaving no doubt that this build delivers on every promise.

While the Halls have plans to bring the ‘71 out to plenty of car shows and cruises this summer, they’ve already made of point of putting this revitalized machine’s performance prowess to the test. “I had a blast with it out on the track at Carolina Motorsports Park last month,” Deb notes. “We spent the better part of the day lapping the road course. That allowed me to really get to know the car, and get a good feel for how it handles.”

Wayne chuckles knowingly. It’s the kind of laugh that clearly comes from more than four decades of experience. “Yeah – now she knows that she can take a cloverleaf highway interchange at about ninety miles an hour!”
